Upwork Insights is an independent index of Upwork agencies by Upsight, ranking every agency by the earnings, jobs and Job Success Score shown on its public Upwork page, re-read over time.
Upwork Insights is built and run by the team behind Upsight, a growth platform for agencies that sell on Upwork, and is published by Vizio AI. The same people write the crawler, the ranking code and the pages here. The site is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Upwork Inc.; Upwork is a trademark of Upwork Inc. and is used only to describe the marketplace the data comes from.
Agency owners on Upwork can see their own numbers but not where those numbers stand. The leaderboards that existed before this one printed an estimated monthly revenue for every agency, derived from one recent contract, and sorted on it. We wanted the opposite: a ranking built only from figures Upwork itself publishes, with the method on the page, so an owner can see where they stand, a client can check who they are hiring, and a journalist or analyst can quote a number and know where it came from.
It also exists to send agency owners on to Upsight, and it says so wherever it does. That is the business model; there are no paid placements, and no agency can buy a better rank.
Every agency figure is what Upwork shows an anonymous visitor on the agency's public page: total earned, jobs, hours, Job Success Score, badges, hourly rate range, team size and member-since date. Pages are read from Upwork's own agency directory, category by category, stored with the time of reading, and re-read on a rolling schedule, so growth is measured between observations rather than estimated. The index currently holds 25,139 agencies across 89 categories and 147 countries, showing $3.11B in combined lifetime earnings; it was last built on Oct 30, 2026.
Marketplace figures on Upwork Pulse and the stats pages come from Upwork Inc.'s filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, each linked from the table it feeds. Nothing comes from a signed-in session, a private API or a scraped client list. The full method, including how the run-rate and the Index Score are computed, is on the methodology page; the terms are defined in the glossary.
Lifetime earnings are a counter, not a trend; an agency that stopped working years ago keeps its total. A run-rate appears only once a page has been read twice at least 14 days apart, and until then the page says so rather than guessing. Agencies that hide their earnings on Upwork show blank fields here too, and agencies with no earnings are not ranked. Upwork publishes the Job Success Score but not its formula, so the score is reported, not explained. Work done off Upwork is invisible by design.
If a figure does not match your Upwork page, claim the page and it is re-read the same day. Owners can also ask for an agency page to be unlisted, which is honoured within 24 hours; freelancers can ask the same of their page, no reason needed. Upsight watches every new job in your categories, scores fit against your past wins, drafts the proposal in your voice and submits it from your agency login in minutes, then follows the reply all the way to the contract. The agencies at the top of this index bid early and bid well. That is the whole trick.
